Christmas after Christmas, birthday after birthday, we complain that our friends and family are getting more difficult to buy for. They’ve got and done everything, we say. Well, if you need a bit of inspiration, you’ve landed in the right place.

Here are a few unconventional gift ideas that you might not have otherwise thought of:

Tank driving

That’s right, you can now give your loved one the chance to drive a 56-tonne tank for the day. Not only that, with Wish.co.uk they will also get SAS training and the chance to shoot 17th century mortars and muskets in competition with another team. Points are up for grabs throughout the day and the winning team gets to drive the beastly tank straight over a car. The package costs £280 in total, while Wish also offer ‘tank paintballing’ days at a modest £87.

Wakeboarding

If the person you’re buying for has tried snowboarding and surfing, or even just one of them, then wakeboarding should be next on their list. If, indeed, they haven’t tried any of them, then they will be led through a session of ‘kneeboarding’ before stepping up to the big one. Full lessons are provided and the activity can also be booked for two or more people.

Aqua Sphereing

Share the inside of a washing machine with your partner as you spin down the side of a hill. These spheres are filled with thirty litres of water (worry not: this is not quite to the top) and are big enough to hold 1-2 people. You’ll get to the bottom of the hill it’s just taken you 20 minutes to climb in less than a minute, so it would be wise to avoid standing up for a while when you get out!

Ice climbing

Another action-packed day courtesy of Wish, ice climbing is a whole new adrenaline-filled challenge. For at least 40 minutes, your agility and dexterity will be put to the ultimate test with a strenuous vertical climb up an ice wall. You choose your own path, depending on your fitness and ability, up the wall of compacted ice, which is kept at a cool -12 degrees for the perfect climbing conditions!

Hovercraft-ing

Not quite a verb yet, but it’s still an unbelievably cool gift to give to someone. Initial training is given at most courses in low-power hovercrafts, but the big guns are brought out to play once the basics have been grasped. Nottingham’s site has a purpose-built, competition-standard course to glide around and is suitable in most weather conditions (except very high winds, of course – you don’t want to be hovering any higher than you should be!).
